Personnel:Roles
- Producer-They are often the first to get involved, spotting the creative opportunity .They continue as the driving force right through to distribution.They decide on the scale and budget of the film and source financing from investors to studios.They spot and solve potential problems throughout the production process. They approve locations and hire a team of staff for the production, delegating certain responsibilities to a line producer.
- Director-They are often the creative leads of the film,the directors overall job is to imagine the script in visual form,they work closely with the crew like the wardrobe,makeup and casting and director of photography to develop the ideas into how he wanted it.
- 1 st Assistant Director-Works with the heads of the departments for example director of photography,in the pre production they breakdown the script and analyzing it for what will be needed in terms of cast, locations, equipment and crew. They lead recces, going off to locations to assess their suitability for filming.
- Locations Manager-It’s the job of location managers to find that place in the physical world and make sure it’s accessible, safe and not too expensive to hire.Location managers manage the location. They make sure everyone in the cast and crew knows how to get there. They negotiate parking, noise reduction, power sources, catering requirement They are also responsible for ensuring it’s safe.
- Production Designer- They work with all the other visual departments, costume, lighting, visual and special effects, and graphic design. They help create the visual world in which the story is set.They imagine the screenplay visually. They draw sketches showing mood, atmosphere, lighting, composition, color and texture, which are given to the art director to develop.
- Property Master/ Prop Maker -Prop masters run the property department which makes, stores and transports the props as well as preps the props for each day’s shoot.They work with production designers, set decorators and art directors to work out what props are needed. They do research and then draw up properties lists, deciding which are to be hired and which are to be made.
- Construction Manager-A construction manager is the personal who builds the studios and the sets and listen to what the director wants him too do.The construction manager will hire a wide range of people to make a set look as realistic as possible for example hiring carpenters and and painters this would be used in mostly large budget films.Overall they are also responsible for getting the correct equipment and tools needed on sight to put the sets together.
- Director of photography -The director of photography can overall be the argued the heart of the production,they work very closely with the directors to discuss and argue the feel and the look of the film they use there wide range of knowledge to create a good shot and gather the equipment they will need got example good lightning.They also work very closely with all the camera crews to create a good shot for example they will work with the gaffer and the grip and the focus puller to create a realistic image.
- Art Director-They overall decide how the props,characters and the environment is going to look and how it suits the scene.They usually work closely with the director looking at the script and assessing the vision of the film from the script,they then use there expertise to determine the mood,tone and color palettes.
- Costume designer-A costume designer can arguably be the heart and soul of the film as it helps the characters not only to look the part and fit the character but also helps the characters feel emotionally connected to the film.They will work with most of the different crew like the directors,producers,writers,production designer and hair and makeup designer they do this make the characters look realistic and suit the scene,they look at the story telling of the production and draw mood boards of characters and communicate there style.
- Make up and hair designer-They tend to work closely with the director in the build up of the film in the pre production stage and adjust to the style and the mood of the script and the story board they have to adapt to the look and the mood the characters require and make it as realistic as possible.They also make appointments for special requirements like wig fittings,prostcis and dental appointments to they do this as this could be needed for the scene to make it as realistic as possible.

The effective crewing of a production whether its an industrially sized blockbuster a more modest independent or a school shoot is critical to the over success of the film
- A well crewed production will run on time secure all the required footage and stay within budget
- A poorly crewed production will run overtime,not manage to secure all required shoots and go over budget
Big Budget
- On a big budget production,roles are filled by specialists and seasoned professionals
- A make up artist who works on a big budget productions will usually only ever work in that particular role
Medium Budget
- On a medium budget film the crew will be slightly scaled down from the big budget production,but crews roles will still be filled by experienced professionals
Low Budget
- On a low budget production,the people in the production crew will have varying levels of experience
Micro Budget
- On a micro budget production,the people in the production crew may have to double or triple up on roles
- For its reason,they will often be recruited on the basis of varied experience,multiple skills
